| Election of Parliament’s Mazhilis Deputies of the Republic of Kazakhstan |

Ninety eight deputies of the Mazhilis are elected on the basis of party lists and universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot. Nine deputies of Mazhilis are elected by the Assembly of Nations of Kazakhstan.
Pursuant to Clauses 2 and 3 of Article 33, and Clause 4 of Article 51 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Constitutional Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Election in the Republic of Kazakhstan” (hereinafter referred to as Election Law), a person eligible for election as a deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament must be a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan who has attained the age of 25, has citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and has been residing in the Republic of Kazakhstan for the past 10 years.
A person may not participate in elections if he/she has been declared by a court to be incapable or is held in custody under a court sentence.
A person may not be elected as a deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament, if he/she has a conviction that has not been cancelled or expunged according to the regulations set by the Law (Article 4, Election Law).
The right to nominate candidates for election to the Mazhilis based on party lists belongs to political parties registered in accordance with the set rules, while the right to nominate candidates to be elected by the Assembly of Nations of Kazakhstan belongs to the Board of Assembly.
Political parties make party lists in alphabetical order of the state language. The party list is then submitted to the Central Election Commission by a representative of the political party along with an abstract from the minutes of the supreme body of the political party about nomination of the party list. The authority of such representative must be proven by relevant documents.
Candidates to the Mazhilis of the Parliament to be elected by the Assembly of Nations of Kazakhstan are nominated by the Board of the Assembly. Relevant decisions are made by a majority vote and are recorded in the Minutes of the Board.
The period of nomination for Mazhilis deputies to be elected based on party lists runs from June 22 to July 11, 2007.
The period of nomination for deputies to be elected by the Assembly of Nations of Kazakhstan commences on August 4, 2007 and ends on August 9, 2007.
Party lists submitted by political parties and candidates nominated by the Board of the Assembly of the Nations of Kazakhstan are registered by the Central Election Commission.
Registration of party lists commences on June 22, 2007 and ends on July 17, 2007.
Registration of candidates nominated by the Board of the Assembly of the Nations of Kazakhstan is carried out from 9 to 14 August 2007.
